This design in particular has five links representing(creating) your connection to earth in the form of a round smokey quartz stone. Three of the links are silver with a dark patina, while two are 2 to 2.5 micron thick gold plating over silver. This gold plating won’t rub off.
In the past I found that many of the gold plated pieces I bought from others quickly lost their gold because it was too thin. That was disappointing, so mine are made with much thicker gold plating.
